Lessons within Lockdown

Right now is a time for self-reflection, realization and planning. We’ve had all the time in the world to start a new hobby, rearrange our homes, spring clean — you name it. But it’s important we don’t miss the bigger opportunity within this global transition: taking a minute to re-assess our lives and adjust our actions towards a better future.

What has this year shown you so far that you might not have considered before? Really think about this.

I saw so many parents around me stressing about being home with their kids and having to do virtual school with them. It made me ask myself: What if something like this happened again? Would I want to be prepared to have my children home with me, or unprepared? I have totally changed my future plans about working and am exploring what we would need to make happen in our family in order for me to be a stay at home mom, homeschool, and support my work as well.

But maybe that’s not for you. Other people are tired of being cooped up in their small apartments, causing them to search for homes with land. Then, you have to think about the people that have been working from home. Some of them are considering moving cities because their jobs are staying remote - why stay in a city you can’t afford, or don’t love?

The connection here? All of these things are big life changes..And we might’ve been avoiding considering these things before.

You might be wondering, “How can I self-reflect in order to make decisions for my future?” Here are three things to think about:

  1. What did you think your life would look like compared to how it actually is?

  2. Are there any flaws you’ve noticed since lockdown that you want to change or work on?

  3. What’s a change you’d like to make in the future?

If these three questions don’t help you, then start by asking yourself what you’d love your life to look and feel like in three-months, 1 year, 5 years. What would you regret not at least trying? Start small and be honest with yourself.

You got this!
